How to Research Different Areas and Communities

25 02 2005

There are some really great sites available for researching areas.

InfoPlease.com is an interesting site for all sorts of demographics and community information.  It feels a little intimidating (and not very applicable) when you first enter the site.  However, at the top search bar on the site, enter the city and state under search terms and All InfoPlease under the where to search – and it will bring up a really nice page with links to the following reports:

  • Economic Statistics
  • Demographic Statistics
  • Housing Statistics
  • Social Statistics
  • Quick Facts from the US Census Bureau

The other very helpful site is AreaConnect.com.  From this site, pick the state (on the picture) and the city from the long list.  Once the page about your city comes up, you can scroll down and find

  • Weather Information
  • Population Statistics
  • Crime Statistics
  • Links to services in the city

From these two websites, you can get a much clearer picture about the different cities.

Keep in mind while you are researching, that the larger cities are going to have great areas – and areas that are not so nice – they combine to get the overall statistics.  So do not be scared off from the bigger cities – they also have nice things to offer overall.
